One Man’s Treasure

Milk BottleGot milk bottles?

Old milk bottles are finding new life again in the hands of collectors. All across the country, people with fond memories of the milkman delivering, are scouring basements, attics and antique shops looking for discarded bottles. Here’s an AP story out of Decatur, Ill. about some hard core bottle collectors.

The dairy enthusiast group gathers every three months to swap stories about their collections of milk bottles and talk about the history of long-forgotten dairies in the city and county. The unique thing about Decatur is that milk bottles continue to be found in people’s basements. One collector recently paid $300 for a rare milk bottle found in a man’s garage.

  1. How do you find out how much a milk bottle is worth. Have one that was

sealed on 1-11-14 raised lettering on glass. On front has Elm with

Alton, ILL. written in part of the E. On Back it reads “Cooperate with

those who protect you!”. Under that has picture of Fireman, Milkman, &

Policeman (just their heads and caps). Under those has the words Prevent

fires – Buy safe milk – prevent accidents. It has big E on bottom. All writing and pictures is painted on. Has mTc marking. Bottle is short and fat.

Have one that has E-E-E-E-E-E around neck of bottle. On Front it reads Property of Edwardsville Creamery Co. Edwardsville, ILL.. On back it

reads Sealed BB 48 One Quart Liquid. Across bottom it reads this bottle

is never sold. Has big EC on bottom. All writing is raised lettering on

this bottle. Do you have any suggestions. Bottle is normal size.

I know these places no longer exist. I can not find information on the

    web about them.

    do you know anyone interested

  4. I have a one pint Edwardsville Creamery empty bottle, and it looks just like what you say yours looks like (Raised lettering…E-E-E…Going around neck, and E C on the bottom, “This Bottle Is Never Sold”…ect…)

I place a value of my piece @ $500.+ because of its condition, and rarity…These are super hard to find! A collectors dream piece 😉

Nice sounding bottles you have there…Any pictures?
