Dairy Markets Week in Review
The dairy price roller coaster headed back up the first full week of March. Block cheese finished the week at $1.3950 per pound, up 5 cents, 21 1/2-cents above a year ago, and the highest it’s been since late November 2006. Barrel closed Friday at $1.39, up 4 cents on the week, and 26 cents above a year ago. Eight cars of block traded hands and 21 of barrel. The NASS block average hit $1.3248 per pound, up 0.6 cent. Barrel averaged $1.3364, also up 0.6 cent.
The previous week’s strength in butter continued this week. Friday’s price ended at $1.3225, up three-quarters of a cent on the week, and 15 3/4 cents above a year ago. Nine cars were sold this week. NASS butter averaged $1.2008, up 0.1 cent.
Cash Grade “A” nonfat dry milk ended the week at $1.54 per pound, up 1 1/2 cents, on two bids. Extra Grade remained at $1.45. NASS nonfat dry milk averaged $1.1444, up 0.8 cent. Dry whey averaged 65.22 cents, down 0.3 cent.
