ai-updateThe number of farms in Iowa with confirmed or probable cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) rose to 25 on Monday with another four announced.

Three of the new cases are turkey farms and one is a 2.8 million bird laying operation. State officials have quarantined the premises and once the presence of the disease is confirmed, all birds on the property will be humanely euthanized to prevent the spread of the disease.
According to the Iowa Department of Agriculture, this brings the total of confirmed or suspected cases now to over 20 million birds at 24 farms in 11 counties. Only 18 of the cases have been confirmed so far.

Another three cases were confirmed in Minnesota last Friday, bringing the total number of cases in the largest turkey producing state to 67, according to USDA APHIS.
