Heat stress often decreases milk yield, reproductive efficiency and immunity of lactating cows, thus reducing profits on farm. Even mild heat stress can have significant short term effects on productivity. There can also be an impact on overall health and fertility. By improving heat abatement systems, fine-tuning rations and adjusting feed bunk management, the negative effects of heat stress can be reduced. Feed management and nutritional programs should be harnessed to address poor intake and inconsistent eating patterns that can result in rumen acidosis.
