nafb-bayer-brd Bayer Health Care had several representatives from their Animal Health Team on hand at Trade Talks during the 2015 National Association of Farm Broadcasters (NAFB) Convention to discuss two of their latest innovations in animal healthcare.

Doug Stouffer, Food Animal Marketing Communications Manager for Bayer, sat down during Trade Talks to discuss Zelnate, Bayer’s latest non-antibiotic innovation to fight Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD), a disease commonly known to affect beef cattle herds. It’s not an antibiotic, and it’s not a vaccine. Zelnate is the first licensed DNA immunostimulant on the market, and it works by helping to mitigate the BRD complex that is common in cattle.

“Zelnate jumpstarts the innate immune system in an animal,” said Stouffer during an interview at Trade Talks. “That innate immune system helps recruit other immune cells to tell the body that an infection is coming, and it prepares the body to fight that infection.”

The product has been on the market since August, and several producers have found success using Zelnate, either as a stand alone or concurrently with other treatments. Interested customers are encouraged to look online at the wide array of resources available on the product. nafb-bayer-eartagsBruce Brinkmeyer, Product manager, discussed Tolfenpro, Bayer’s latest eartag insecticide. It is different than everything else producers can currently find on the market, and uses a completely new class of active insecticide.

“For the last twenty years, livestock producers have really been limited to using pyrethroids or organophosphates to fight horn flies and face flies on cattle, so we’re really excited to bring Tolfenpro onto the market,” said Brinkmeyer. “Because it’s a new class, there will be no resistance or any reduced susceptibility by horn or face flies by this product, and because it’s an ear tag, it requires only one application for the season.”

After successful limited trial usage this summer, Bayer expects Tolfenpro to be in the market across the whole country this spring. Interested customers can look online to find more information on the product.
