The University of Wisconsin-Cooperative Extension will be hosting seven Cattle Feeders workshops at locations throughout Wisconsin from February 22 through February 25, 2016. The forums will discuss the new Veterinary Feed Directive requirements, a market outlook, results of recent feeding trials, and overhead cost survey highlights.
Adam Hady, UW-Extension Richland County agriculture agent, will present a discussion on the upcoming changes surrounding Veterinary Feed Directive requirements. Hady will highlight specific rule changes regarding the use of certain medications administered by feed and water, as well as what producers need to do in order to use these medications.
A presentation on the market outlook and and update on what current information is suggesting prices will do over the next year will be given by Brenda Boetel, UW-Extension livestock and grain marketing specialist
Bill Halfman, UW-Extension Monroe County agriculture agent, will present highlights from an Overhead Cost Survey conducted by UW-Extension, and will also discuss the results from a recent feeding trial with heavy Holstein Steers.
February 22nd workshops will be held in Mondovi, at Olson’s Farm Service, from 11 am to 2 pm, and in Cadott, at Farmer’s Kitchen, from 6:30 pm to 9 pm.
The February 23rd workshop will be held in Bear Creek, with a farm tour at Wagonson Farms at 10:30 am, and lunch and the remainder of workshop at Deer Creek Town Hall Shiocton starting at 11:30 a.m.
Two workshops will be held on February 24th: One in Hancock, at the UW Agricultural Research Station, from 9:30 a.m. to noon, and one in Jefferson, at the UW-Extension Jefferson County office, from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The final workshops will take place on February 25th, the first in Richland Center, at The Phoenix Center, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A second workshop will take place in Sparta, at Jake’s Northwoods, with a dinner served at 6 pm, and the program running from 6:45 p.m. to 9 p.m.
