ncba-200 This morning, the National Cattlemen ‘s Beef Association (NCBA) hosted a press teleconference regarding the organization’s sustained support for the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP). United States Trade Representative (USTR) Ambassador Michael Froman and NCBA Vice President Kevin Kester discussed how the agriculture industry and the administration are working together to promote the TPP.

Following the presser, an estimated 300 cattle producers from across the country hit Capitol Hill to meet with their Congressional representatives as part of the the NCBA’s annual Legislative Conference this morning. Ambassador Froman spoke on the importance of passing the trade agreement, which will cause U.S. beef exports to increase by 444 million pounds, resulting in increased cash receipts totaling $1.14 billion. He also stressed the cost of inaction on the Trans Pacific Partnership.

“All told, it’s estimated that TPP will boost annual net farm income in the United States by $4.4 billion,” said Froman. “With these benefits at hand, the cost of inaction is alarming – together, let’s ensure we never pay them. These countries want us to be involved in their lives, they want our engagement, and as a Pacific power, we want to be engaged.”
