AFIA-awards-16 The American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) has named Cathy Bandyk, Ph.D., of Westway Feed Products LLC, and Ronny Moser, Ph.D., of JBS United, Inc, as the AFIA Members of the Year. The two were honored during a ceremony at the AFIA Board of Directors dinner, held May 4 in Arlington, Va.

The award is presented to AFIA members who exhibit the utmost support throughout the year to help the organization achieve its goals and objectives. Bandyk is known for her many accomplishments with The Institute for Feed Education and Research (IFEEDER), AFIA’s foundation, and Moser was a key component in informing AFIA membership of preventative measures concerning the porcine epidemic diarrhea virus.

Bandy, who serves on IFEEDER’s Board of Trustees, has played an instrumental part in the realignment of IFEEDER’s future to better benefit AFIA membership and the industry. She is also an active member of the Liquid Feed Committee.

“At the 2015 Liquid Feed Symposium, Cathy presented a liquid feed historical timeline that featured six decades of industry and individual accomplishments,” said AFIA President and CEO Joel G. Newman. “The timeline was a perfect portrayal of the successes and advancements liquid feed has undergone and the future it holds.”

Moser serves on the Nutrition Committee, nonruminant subcommittee and chaired the Animal Feed and Health Biosecurity Tack Force.

“In the task force, Ron spearheaded the creation of a biosecurity document that now serves the industry as a benchmark for disease spread prevention in feed and ingredient manufacturing facilities,” said Richard Sellers, AFIA senior vice president of public policy and education.

“His efforts were crucial when directing next steps for AFIA members impacted by PEDV in 2014 and also when the poultry industry was affected by the highly pathogenic avian influenza in 2015,” said Sellers.
