Their Sustainability Priorities Compass highlights five impact areas: Customer Productivity and Profitability, Supply Chain Efficiency, Human Health and Nutrition, Sustainable Animal Agriculture, and Engaged and Empowered Employees. As a complement to the Compass, in 2015, Novus simplified its focus to pinpoint three main areas for measurement: People, Processes and Products.

Highlights include:
– Reducing carbon dioxide emissions due to a shipping optimization project with CIBENZA®DP100 feed enzyme.
– Acquiring a key manufacturing intermediate for ALIMET® feed supplement to further strengthen the ability to deliver this key product to its customers.
– Beginning a life-cycle assessment (LCA) on a key Novus product to identify hot spots in the production process and determine ways to reduce environmental impact.
– Becoming a member of The Sustainability Consortium to collaborate at all levels of the food production value chain for a more sustainable future.

“It is important for us to continue to communicate with our stakeholders through annual sustainability reporting,” said Jake Piel, Sustainability Manager at Novus. “While reporting is just one element of our platform, the individual activities in which we participate are a direct result of understanding what our stakeholders expect from a company like Novus.”

The 2015 Novus Sustainability Report was prepared according to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G-4 standards. GRI is a non-profit, multi-stakeholder organization that seeks to increase the level of business transparency by promoting sustainability reporting among companies throughout the world. The main tool for assimilating sustainability reporting is the GRI reporting framework which contains detailed guidelines for reporting on sustainability impacts. It provides a consistent structure that thousands of companies around the world now use to disclose their approach and performance related to sustainability.
