onthefarm-2017 The beef checkoff has announced three On the Farm STEM professional development events for 2017. The events are designed for those who train or coach STEM teachers.

“If you work as a STEM coordinator, coach at a school district or university or work in a leadership role, this may be a great fit for you,” said Julie Tesch, executive director of the American Farm Bureau Foundation, contractor to the beef checkoff. “On The Farm STEM events provide a tremendous learning opportunity for non-formal educators as well, such as those who design learning experiences at museums and events that explore the application of STEM concepts in real life.”

The training was designed to bring science to life for participants with the help of American beef cattle ranchers, researchers, nutritionists and veterinarians, and selected participants will receive free registration, reimbursement of up to $1,000 for approved travel expenses, hotel accommodations for three nights and meals, in addition to educational supplies and resources.

The deadline for application to the first two events is Dec. 15, 2016. These first events are located in Los Angeles, California, March 27-29, 2017 (held immediately prior to the National Science Teachers Association National Conference), and Boston, Massachusetts, April 6-8, 2017.

Application deadline for the third event is March 1, 2017. The third event will be held in Orlando, Florida on July 9-11, 2017 (immediately prior to the National Science Teachers Association STEM Forum & Expo).

“We are excited to offer these professional development events at no cost to participants. Space is limited, so apply now!” Tesch said.
