  • During the 2017 American Sheep Industry Association Convention, New Mexico sheep producer Mike Corn, was elected the organization’s new president. Benny Cox (Texas) was voted to serve as vice president and Susan Shultz (Ohio) will serve as secretary/treasurer.
  • The USDA’s Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) is delaying the effective date of a rule by 60 days, and extending the comment period by 30 days, for three recent regulations, the Farmer Fair Practices Rules, published in the Federal Register Dec. 20, 2016. These actions are being taken in accordance with guidance issued Jan. 20, 2017, to ensure the new policy team has an opportunity to review the rules.
  • Canadian Agri-Business Education Foundation (CABEF) raised $98,338 in 2016. CABEF awards six $2,500 scholarships annually to students enrolling in an agricultural university or college in Canada. Fundraising efforts in conjunction with Best of Canadian Agri-Marketing Association raised $42,642 from live, silent auctions and raffles.
