Our neighbors and fellow cattlemen from the North also traveled to Nashville for the 2017 Cattle Industry Convention and NCBA Trade Show. I sat down with Jill Harvie, programs manager for the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association, to hear about some of their key policy issues for the upcoming year and to get the details on their upcoming convention.

“This we year we are looking forward to a couple key areas of focus. One is the expansion of our traceability system in Canada. As you may know, every animal in Canada has a unique RFID in their ears tied to a national database. We are going to take that one step further with regulation and work with our government on full movement data recorded on those cattle along with premise ID.”

The Canadian Beef Industry Conference is going back to Alberta for it’s second year and will be located at the Calgary Stampede grounds on August 15-17, 2017. “We welcome you to come and we will show you a good time. We will have some great speakers, demos, tours, golf and entertainment planned all at the foothills of the Rockies.”
