Dairy Markets Week in Review
The cash dairy markets weakened in the shortened Martin Luther King Day week. Block cheese closed Friday at $1.2875 per pound, down 2 cents on the week, and 6 1/4 cents below that week a year ago. Barrel closed at $1.3075, down 2 1/4-cents on the week, and a quarter-cent below a year ago. Thirteen cars of block traded hands on the week and five of barrel. The latest NASS block price average hit $1.3202, up 0.5 cent. Barrel averaged $1.3136, up 1.7 cents.
Butter closed the week at $1.2250, down a half cent on the week, and 11 1/2-cents below a year ago. Only four carloads were traded. NASS butter averaged $1.1901, down 0.1 cent. NASS nonfat dry milk averaged $1.0457, down 0.1 cent. Dry whey averaged a record high 46.98 cents, up 3.3 cents.
