Accelerated Genetics announces their 2007 scholarships to students pursuing a degree in an agricultural field. Applicants were evaluated on their leadership, scholarship and involvement in agriculture. Congrats to these well deserving winners!
Four $500.00 scholarships are awarded to youth just graduating from high school and beginning college.
Megan Herberg, St. Peter, Minnesota, plans to attain two degrees while in college, one in Dairy Science and another in Agricultural Business, with a minor in Spanish. By combining these degrees with the priceless experiences she has had, she feels she will be a strong candidate to work in the dairy industry and eventually return to the home farm as a fifth generation member.
Ashley Sears, South Deerfield, Massachusetts, has been accepted to attend Cornell University where she plans to pursue a degree in Agricultural Business. Her long-term goal is to obtain a Law degree with a concentration in agricultural policy and to continue developing her registered Guernsey and Holstein herd.
Brittany Pearson, Millbury, Massachusetts, has the vision of becoming a Veterinarian. She plans to attend Cornell University where she will major in Animal Science/Pre-Vet Medicine. After her residency, she would like to open her own veterinary practice for large animals, in addition to returning to her family’s farm, making her dreams into reality.
Matthew Mitchell, LaFollette, Tennessee, plans to one day operate a herd of registered Holsteins that can be competitive in both the show and sale ring. Three years ago, he started milking his own small herd of cows and this year plans to attend college to further his agricultural education. Matthew will be attending Roane State Community College for the first two years and then transfer to the University of Tennessee to complete a degree in Animal Science.
Two $1,000.00 scholarships are awarded to students currently enrolled in agricultural programs at college. Cody Dix, Stockton, Kansas, is attending the Colby Community College in Kansas. He is majoring in Animal Nutrition. Londa Johnson, LaCrescent, Minnesota, is a freshman at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and is majoring in Dairy Science.
