Cooperatives Working TogetherHere’s the latest announcement from Cooperatives Working Together:

Cooperatives Working Together announced today that it accepted two additional export assistance bids last month for the sale of cheese and anhydrous milkfat.

The first bid is from Dairy Farmers of America of Kansas City, MO, for the export of 351 metric tons (772,200 pounds) of anhydrous milkfat to Mexico. The other bid is from Land O’Lakes of Arden Hills, MN, for the export of 40 metric tons (88,000 lbs.) of Mozzarella cheese to Japan. CWT will pay an export bonus to the bidders, once completion of the milkfat and cheese shipments is verified. CWT will pay an export bonus to the bidders, once completion of the butter and cheese shipments is verified.

The first week of trading in 2007 was a short one. The markets were closed for the New Year’s holiday on Monday and remained closed Tuesday in honor of the passing of President Gerald Ford.

Cash block cheese closed Friday at $1.34 per pound, up a penny on the week, but 2 3/4-cents below that week a year ago. Barrel finished at $1.3450, up 5 1/2-cents on the week, and a half cent above a year ago. Two cars of block traded hands on the week and three of barrel. The NASS surveyed U.S. average block price fell to $1.3039, down 0.9 cent. Barrel averaged $1.2990, up 0.3 cent.

Cash butter closed at $1.20, unchanged on the week, but 20 cents below a year ago. Three cars were sold. NASS butter averaged $1.2085, down 3.1 cents. NASS nonfat dry milk averaged $1.0072, down 3.3 cents. Dry whey averaged 41.62 cent, up 0.2 cent on the week.
