Congratulations to Johnny Daniel, Charlotte, Tenn. for being named the new board chairman of Select Sires Inc. Daniel succeeds Randy Kortus, Lynden, Wash. The Board also elected first vice chairman, Myron Czech of Little Falls, Minn., and second vice chairman, Dan Andreas, of Sugarcreek, Ohio. Select Sires Board of Directors met on March 24 and 25, 2010 in Plain City, Ohio, in conjunction with Select Sires’ Annual Meeting.
New chairman, Johnny Daniel most recently served as first vice chairman of Select Sires’ Board and was initially appointed to the Board in 2001. Johnny has been serving on the Southeast/Select Sires Board of Directors since 1982. After obtaining his master’s degree and working in agriculture lending, Johnny returned home to the family dairy farm with his wife, Statia. Johnny and his son, Benji, operate the farm in Charlotte, Tenn., where they milk 180 Holstein cows and own 980 acres.
Myron Czech who previously served as second vice chairman on Select Sires’ Board was named first vice chairman. He has served on the Board of Directors for Select Sires since 1998 and has served on the Minnesota/Select Sires Cooperative Board of Directors for 19 years. Additionally, he served as president for the cooperative from 1998 to 2001. Following his college graduation from the University of Minnesota, Czech returned to his home dairy where they milked approximately 90 cows in 1980. Since that time Myron and his wife, Deb, and their children have built their herd to milk over 1,500 Holsteins in central Minnesota. In 2009, Myron was recognized as the first recipient of the Gopher Dairy Club’s Golden Graduate Award, an award that recognizes University of Minnesota alumni.
Dan Andreas is the most recent Board member to be selected as second vice chairman. He was appointed to Select Sires’ Board in 2007 and has served on the COBA/Select Sires Board of Directors since 2002. Currently, he is carrying out his term as COBA/Select Sires Board vice president. Dan and his son, Matthew, operate Andreas Farms in Sugarcreek, Ohio, and Crilow Dairy in Benton, Ohio. The herd has grown from 180 dairy cows in 1978 to nearly 1,500 Holsteins between the two operations today.
