The Australian Fonterra is seeking to add an extra 100 million litres of milk supply in the coming season.
Fonterra Ingredients Australia managing director Simon Bromell anticipated the extra milk would come from a combination of increased supply from existing suppliers and new suppliers it expects to attract during the season.
The 100mL target is the equivalent of the annual output of about 75 average-sized dairy farms.
Mr Bromell said existing suppliers would be encouraged to increase production through new incentives under the company’s Boost payment scheme.
Last week, Fonterra announced an anticipated open price range of $4 and $4.30 per kilogram milk solids (kg MS).
Mr Bromell said an actual figure could not yet be set because of volatile prices and movements in the Australian dollar exchange rate.
The anticipated range reflects a price decline expected by industry analysts.
