The Dairy Business Association (DBA) is a statewide organization that stands in the center of Wisconsin’s $26-billion-per year milk industry. Comprised of representatives from all aspects of the industry, DBA is focused on understanding, anticipating and influencing the policy landscape that will drive Wisconsin’s dairy-based economy. As one of the largest producers of milk and dairy products in the world, the economic impact of Wisconsin’s dairy industry is not only significant at the state level, but increasingly relevant at the national and international levels. In recognition of this role, the DBA Board of Directors announces the creation of a new position, Director of Dairy Policy.

Former Executive Director of DBA, Laurie Fischer, will immediately assume the position of Director of Dairy Policy and focus exclusively on these issues affecting Wisconsin’s dairy industry. DBA is also pleased to announce the recent hire of John Holevoet in the position of Government Relations Manager. John, a licensed attorney who grew up on a farming operation, will report to Laurie and support her in developing and implementing DBA’s policy agenda. Laurie will report directly to the DBA board.

“Laurie is a natural at developing and shepherding innovative public policy. This stuff is right in her wheelhouse,” said Jerry Meissner, president of the DBA Board of Directors. “There’s no question she’s the right person to bring our message of environmental sustainability, responsibility and economic growth to policymakers.”

In addition, the Board has created a new position — Executive Director of Business Affairs — that will focus on building the economic strength of the organization and expanding its services to members. This position will also report directly to the Board, and will oversee the internal finance, personnel and membership concerns of the organization. DBA will be conducting a search for a qualified individual interested in joining this team and undertaking the challenges facing Wisconsin’s dairy industry as it grows.

Mike North, who is on the DBA Board of Directors, added, “With so many Federal, state and local issues facing the dairy industry, it is imperative to devote Laurie’s full attention to addressing those challenges and bring in another professional to manage and grow DBA.”
