World Dairy Expo has announced the selection of three individuals to fill key volunteer dairy cattle show leadership positions. Dave Bollig, Belleville, Wis., has been selected as the new Overall Dairy Cattle Show Superintendent, Ken Elliott, Marshall, Wis., will continue to serve as the Assistant Dairy Cattle Show Superintendent, and Randy Thompson, Edgerton, Wis., has been selected to serve as the Grounds and Pavilion Manager.
Bollig will work directly with the breed superintendents and their staff to support and manage each breed show and assist them with the execution of their respective aspects of the show. He will also maintain his duties as Brown Swiss Breed Superintendent, a position which he has held for the past three years. In addition, he will serve on the WDE Executive Committee and Board of Directors.
“All of the superintendents and volunteers work hard and put in countless hours all throughout the year,” said Bollig. “I am looking forward to working with all of them, and especially with Ken, to continue to have a successful show.”
Bollig will be taking over for Jim Crowley, Jr. who stepped down from the position in December.
Elliott will work side-by-side with Bollig as the Assistant Dairy Cattle Show Superintendent, a position he has held since 2012. He will continue to assist with all aspects of the dairy cattle show, as well as serving in his role as the Holstein Breed Superintendent, which he has held since 2001.
Thompson will be serving as the Grounds and Pavilion Manager, a new position created this year. His duties include managing and coordinating all aspects of the Alliant Energy Center grounds and New Holland Pavilions during Expo, including logistics for dairy cattle move-in and out, exhibitor parking, feed and bedding storage, manure removal and milk pick-up. Thompson has been a past Expo volunteer and will work closely with the current dairy cattle show volunteers in his new role.
“The Pavilions are a huge change to Expo, and with that change came a need to have someone carry the torch in terms of communication with exhibitors to make sure their experiences are positive,” said Thompson. “I have always had a desire to volunteer and give back. This show wouldn’t happen without people stepping up to the plate and volunteering.”
