On Tuesday, USDA-APHIS confirmed the presence of HPAI in two wild birds, a goose and a duck, in McCracken County, Kentucky. These birds were found within the Mississippi flyway where this strain of avian influenza has previously been identified.
A new outbreak of the H5N2 strain was also confirmed in a flock of 27,000 turkeys in Minnesota, where the majority of cases have been found to date. Approximately 3.4 million birds have been affected so far in the number one turkey producing state.
Additionally, the Iowa Department of Agriculture is reporting another four probable cases in both chicken and turkey operations. These four new cases would join eight cases of the disease in Iowa that were previously announced.
