Ken Maschhoff, The Maschoffs, Inc. and VP of the National Pork Producers Council, was on hand during the World Pork Expo to talk all things vital to the pork industry. I picked his brain on trade and other policy issues impacting swine production.
“The pork industry is exporting 27% of our pork today. Exports are tremendously important. They represent $6.6 billion annually and create about 110,000 jobs in pork exports sector. As we think about the importance of trade, it’s obviously vital. It adds about $62.00 a head to our sales of pork. If you took those exports away, it would be significant.”
Ken reminds us that without Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) there will no trade agreements like Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPA). Enhancing the value of products like pork are essential to the profitability of our nations farmers. Exports do just that.
