The National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA) represents the 50 state commissioners, secretaries and directors of agriculture. Dr. Barb Glen, CEO of NASDA, took in this year’s World Dairy Expo and said don’t forget that there is one near you and you should get to know them.
“We represent agriculture. Our mission is to grow and enhance agriculture through strong partnerships and developing strong agricultural policy. We do this between your state and federal government.”
NASDA is big supporters of bi-lateral agricultural trade and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) falls right in line with those goals. “In that discussion, negotiators are talking about dairy access and we hope we can have a successful new TPP.”
“We support a strong dairy safety net and we have done so since the 2014 farm bill. We are monitoring MPP and we want to see that be successful for the dairy industry. We want to ensure the dairy industry that they have a competitive market for their product.”
Dr. Glenn said all the policies they support are founded on providing farmers and ranchers with the right to farm and freedom to operate. In the future she said issues will continue to be about trade and animal health and NASDA helps unify voices.
