Ag Sustainability Summit Returning to IPPE

IPPE The 2016 International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE) will once again be hosting the annual Animal Agriculture Sustainability Summit during the event. This will be the eighth year that expo attendees will have the opportunity to attend the program, which intends to harbor discussion about the sustainability of today’s animal agriculture industry.

The program will include presentations from several poultry industry experts on the importance of sustainability in agriculture. This year, Dr. Marty Matlock and Dr. Greg Thoma, University of Arkansas, will present on “A Retrospective Analysis of US Poultry Production – A 50 Year Comparison of the Meat Bird Industry.” Dr. Joy Mench, University of California, Davis, will discuss “The Sustainability of the Layer Industry – Laying Hen Housing Research – The Coalition for Sustainable Egg Supply.” Dr. Claudia Dunkley, University of Georgia, will finish up the presentations with her discussion on “A Carbon Footprint Tool for Poultry and Egg Producers.”

The Summit will also feature a panel discussion by the Poultry Industry Sustainability Workgroup on the development of the Poultry and Egg Industry Sustainability Assessment Program, which is working to identify measurable indicators for industry professionals to use as resources to help improve and maintain sustainable practices on their operation.

The half-day program will be held Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016, as part of the IPPE Expo at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Ga. All 2016 IPPE attendees may attend the Summit free of charge.
