The Animal Agriculture Alliance is always stocked with important research and information the animal ag community needs to hear. At the recent NAFB Trade Talk, Kindra Hall, spoke with President and CEO of the Alliance, Kay Johnson Smith, to learn more about past, current and emerging trends in animal rights activism and how animal agriculture is working together to proactively respond.
“We monitor emerging issues. We monitor what we are seeing in the media. We also go to the conferences held by animal rights groups where they talk about their campaigns, tactics they plan to use to accomplish their vegan agenda.”
One trend Kay said was on the rise was animal activists interaction with faith-based communities. HSUS has held press conferences with leaders of all faiths with the goal to bring those leaders of the churches into the discussion of animal rights.
“It is really incumbent for farmers and ranchers to step out and have these conversations now before it’s too late and make sure the leaders of your churches understand your commitment to your animals and the community.”
