Just four short months ago the American Angus Association brought in Allen Moczygemba to help lead the organization as Chief Executive Officer. Just last week I was fortunate to have the opportunity to sit down with him. Allen was eager for you to learn more about his life-long commitment to agriculture and share his vision for the breed going forward.
Angus is known as the ‘Business Breed’ and Allen said the state of the breed makes it a fun topic to discuss. “Our registration numbers continue to grow significantly year over year. Prices have held even though the cattle market has softened. We are positioned well for the longterm. Genetic testing continues to grow in acceptance. We have more and more data we are able to share with our members and commercial cattlemen as well. I am blessed to be here at this time.”
Folks throughout the cattle community are fully aware we are in a rebuilding period and that provides opportunities. Allen said CattleFax projects the addition of 2.5 million beef cows to the national herd in the next three years. All breeds and infrastructure will benefit.
Communicating to the breeds commercial producers is probably the associations most important role. Certified Angus Beef (CAB) has helped grow the marketplace for premium cattle and that credit can goes to addressing the needs of commercial producers. “We feel we are in a good spot. We can do better, there is not doubt about it on the commercial side and it is something we strive for. But at the same time, commercial producers know Angus bulls will perform.”
Allen continues to talk about the future of the breed and the association’s longterm strategic goals in my complete interview. Interview with Allen Moczygemba
