National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s (NCBA) Legislative Conference is scheduled for next week. Over 200 cattlemen are expected to take over Capitol Hill with one clear message: pass the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement. The conference will kick off with an issues briefing by NCBA staff and morning session from United States Trade Representative (USTR) Ambassador Michael Froman.
NCBA and the USTR worked very closely together in negotiating the final TPP package and cattle producers have supported the administration’s efforts to expand trade and level the playing field for a host of U.S. ag products. Every day that goes by without passage of TPP, other preferential trade agreements erode our market access, costing U.S. producers millions in lost sales. USTR and Ambassador Froman negotiated a deal that gives cattle producer’s better market access to Japan than ever before and keeps America’s beef industry competitive against other countries.
Other issues cattlemen and women will discuss during the Legislative Conference include: food safety, environmental regulations, cattle health and public lands grazing.
