Hereford youth, along with their families, will travel from across the country next month to compete at the Vitaferm Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE) will take place July 9 -15 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wis. The 2016 event numbers total more than 2,100 entries, with 1,800 head of cattle and close to 900 exhibitors.
“We are excited to experience a new venue for Hereford breeders and the new barns at the Alliant Energy Center,” says Amy Cowan, American Hereford Association (AHA) director of youth activities and foundation. “The city of Madison and the state of Wisconsin have definitely rolled out the red carpet for our Hereford Scene in 2016 event.”
Last year’s JHNE, held in Grand Island, Neb., drew in more than 3,000 National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA) members, and even more are expected in Madison.
“Some of your best friends and resources can be made at the JNHE,” says NJHA Board Chairmen, Cody Jensen, Courtland, Kan. “We are going to be the first junior national to be held at the top of the line facility, and I’ve heard great things about the Alliant Energy Center.”
The event will award close to $30,000 in scholarships to NJHA members from the Hereford Youth Foundation of America, and the quiz bowl, Sullivan Supply Stock Show University fitting and showmanship contests, and the Great American Certified Hereford Beef (CHB®) Grill-off ensure that activities will involve the whole family.
