This week’s audio report from the U.S. Meat Export Federation discusses the special set of strategies required to overcome the challenges unique to exporting red meat to the Caribbean.
Liz Wunderlich, USMEF representative in the Caribbean, explains that lack of storage space for meat, inconsistent cold chain infrastructure, and the high cost of electricity are some of the major complications to successful Caribbean exports.
She also highlights several opportunities the Caribbean market presents for U.S. red meat if the U.S. industry can assist hotels, restaurants, and distributors to overcome these challenges, such as through the demonstration of ways portion-control cuts can offer excellent value, consistency and efficiency.
