The Great Canadian Cheese Rolling Festival, hosted by Dairy Farmers of Canada, is back for its ninth installment. This year’s event is set for Saturday, August 20, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m at Blackcomb Mountain in Whistler, BC, and will feature activities the whole family can enjoy, including cheese rolling races, tastings, and a market featuring some of the best cheeses in Canada.
Costume-clad cheese chasers will race down the slopes of Blackcomb Mountain, following an 11-pound wheel of Natural Pastures’ Aged Farmhouse cheese, until a female and male champion is declared. Both winners will receive a wheel of Canadian cheese and two Whistler Blackcomb season ski passes.
For those not brave enough to chase the cheese, the event will also feature uphill dodge ball contests, where participants will run uphill, dodging balls rolling down the hill. A crazy costume contest will also be held during the event, encouraging participants and attendees to dress in costume for a chance to win gift cards and prizes from festival sponsors.
Cooking demos and recipe tastings will be also held with B.C. local and Vancouver Aquarium’s Ocean Wise Executive Chef Ned Bell, who will cultivate a Great Canadian Cheese Rolling Festival-inspired dish that showcases Canadian cheese, and several cheese seminars will feature cheese expert David Beaudoin from Dairy Farmers of Canada, who will share his knowledge of Canadian cheese and wine pairings.
