On this week’s audio report from the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF), Dan Halstrom, USMEF senior vice president for marketing, discusses his recent experience showcasing U.S. beef and pork with USMEF and several of its member companies at SIAL Paris.
The global food show is held every two years, and this year’s event attracted approximately 7,000 exhibitors and over 100,000 attendees from well over 100 countries, including buyers from across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
“The SIAL Show in Paris is a very significant global food show, not only for European customers, but for customers from the Eastern Bloc, Central Asia, and a lot from China and Southeast Asia,” said Halstrom. “The exhibitors feel like there’s an opportunity with U.S. beef and pork, because we have larger supplies available in the U.S. compared to the last few years, and in a lot of cases our price points are a bit more competitive. I think this is indeed an opportunity for some incremental business.”
