The U.S. Meat Export Federation’s (USMEF) latest stats are out on U.S. pork, beef and lamb. Thad Lively, Senior Vice President, USMEF, was onsite at NAFB’s Trade Talk to highlight those export numbers along with trade and the new presidential administration going forward.
“The numbers are very encouraging. Beef exports are up 8%, pork exports are up 5%. That’s from a down year last year, so we are very encouraged to see that rebound. We forecast that same trend into 2017. Good news for everybody in meat exports.”
Thad stressed the good coming out of the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) for animal agriculture. “We need TPP. At USMEF, we work closely with cattlemen, pork producers and our government to help negotiate that agreement. We are very bullish on TPP. We will continue to make it clear how important it is that TPP is passed and implemented as quickly as possible.”
