Safety Important to Dairy Member on Beef Board

Beef safety is a top priority for one dairy producer who serves on the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board.

Willie Bylsma of Oakdale, California who is in the dairy business and also raises dairy beef. “We are very involved in making sure that the cattle we sell are good quality and in good condition,” he says.

In a brief interview as he was getting ready to attend the beef safety committee of the board during the recent Cattle Industry Convention, Bylsma said safety is an important priority for the beef checkoff. “We’re trying to make sure that consumers know beef safety is number one in the industry and that we are pro-active in this area to make sure that consumers get a quality product,” he said.

Bylsma notes that it is important for dairy producers to keep in mind they are also beef producers. “As a dairy producer I’m very concerned about that,” he said. “We need to get that message out to other producers.” He encourages other producers to get involved
