The Center for Dairy Excellence will host its second “Open House and Dairy Tour” at Meadow Spring Farm LLC in Lititz, Pa. on Tuesday, July 16, from 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Owned in partnership by Tom and Sue Bollinger, their son Andy, and his wife Andrea, Meadow Spring Farm consists of 360 Holstein milking cows and 330 replacement heifers. In recent years, the Bollingers have worked to update dairy facilities and utilize resources to be more efficient and profitable.
The farm has built new facilities around the original bank barn. The free stall barn was lengthened to add more stalls in order to reduce overcrowding and give more attention to cow comfort. The milking area, which was finished last fall, features a double-12 rapid exit parlor. The milking procedure incorporates new technology called the FutureCow Prepping System. This technology has increased efficiency during milking times.
The Center for Dairy Excellence worked with Meadow Spring Farm through its Transformation Team program for the past three years. Through this program, the Bollingers were able to improve managerial skills and employee communication on the farm. Incorporating environmental stewardship into the operation was also a major goal for the dairy business.
Tour the facility and learn about the recent changes and updates that have made Meadow Spring Farm LLC and the Bollinger family more successful during the center’s Open House and Dairy Tour on the 16th. The open house will feature a self-guided tour of the facilities and a short program to learn more about the farm’s recent modernizations. A picnic-style lunch will be served at 12 p.m., compliments of the Center for Dairy Excellence.
