Dairy Markets Week in Review
Just when you think cheese prices are down for the count, along comes another rally. Such was the case the first week of December. Block cheese regained almost 9 cents on Monday, after plunging 19 cents the previous week. It closed Friday at $2.1925 per pound, up 18 1/4-cents on the week and 87 1/4-cents above that week a year ago. Barrel closed at $2.16, up 14 1/4-cents on the week and 88 cents above a year ago. Four cars of block traded hands on the week and one of barrel. The lagging NASS-surveyed U.S. average block price hit $2.1011, up 6.3 cents, and barrel averaged $2.0384, up 3.5 cents.
Cash butter closed Friday at $1.33, up a penny on the week, and 8 cents above a year ago. Twenty cars were sold. NASS butter averaged $1.3170, down 0.9 cent. NASS nonfat dry milk averaged $1.8523, down 3.4 cents. Dry whey averaged 45.59 cents, up a penny.
