Dairy Markets Week in Review
Cash cheese prices keep defying expectations and fundamentals. Blocks closed Friday just shy of the $2.00 mark, at $1.99 per pound, up 19 cents on the week, following the previous week’s 15-cent gain. It’s also 64 1/2-cents above that week a year ago. Barrel closed at $1.9375, up 15 3/4-cents on the week, and 61 3/4-cents above a year ago. Six cars of block traded hands on the week and two of barrel. The NASS-surveyed U.S. average block price plunged 11.6 cents, to $1.7948. Barrel averaged $1.8507, down 9.4 cents.
Butter closed Friday at $1.22, down a quarter-cent on the week, and unchanged from a year ago. Twelve cars were sold. NASS butter averaged $1.1986, up 0.3 cent. NASS nonfat dry milk averaged $1.4030, down 5.4 cents, and dry whey averaged 32.48 cents, down 2.4 cents.
