The American Royal Association celebrated some of the beef industry’s best and brightest with the announcement of the 2015 Steak Competition winners on October 25th. Top beef producers from across the nation were invited to the announcement during the 2015 American Royal TableSteaks Celebration, held in the Wagstaff Theater within the American Royal Complex.
Got Grassfed, of Plainview, Nebraska, took the champion title in the grass-finished category for the second year in a row, with reserve honors going to Reserve Cattle Company, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
Reserve Cattle Company also received the champion title for the grain-finished category, with reserve honors going to Lone Mountain Wagyu, of Los Angeles, California.
The judging itself took place earlier in October, following submissions of frozen rib eye steaks by producers throughout the nation. The entries were prepared in an identical manner at the Kansas State University Olathe Campus.
Steaks were cooked on a George Foreman Grill, sliced into one inch cubes, and served to a panel of expert judges, who evaluated the samples for flavor, juiciness, and texture. To ensure unbiased judging, each steak was identified only by a numerical code.
Full judging results are available for both grain-finished and grass-finished categories.
