The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) announced today that Chris Welton, USEF Chief Executive Officer, will be leaving his position with the Federation. USEF is grateful to Welton for his contributions over the last 18 months and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavors.

While the search for a new CEO is underway, the USEF Board of Directors has named an Interm Chief Executive Officer until the position is permanently filled. William (Bill) J. Moroney, current President of the United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA), will serve as the Interim Chief Executive Officer, and the appointment is effective immediately.

Moroney is a founding member of the USHJA, the largest of the USEF affiliate associations, and has served as its President since 2003. Under his leadership at the USHJA, the association has gone through a growth-driven reorganization of its governance model, which resulted in a tremendous increase in the association’s membership and financial stability.

Maloney has also served as a Director of USEF and a member of its Executive Committee, as well as Vice President of the National Affiliates Working Group. He has served as Chair of the Audit Committee, Planning Committee, and Horse Welfare Initiative Task Force, and as Co-Chair of the Mileage Rule Revision Task Force and Pony Committee.

In addition to his numerous leadership positions, he has served as a member of several USEF committees and councils, including the National Breeds & Disciplines Council, Show Jumping High Performance Committee, Budget & Finance Committee, Hearing Committee, Licensed Officials Committee, Continuing Education Committee, and Steward/TD Committee.

“Bill has been actively involved in the governance of equestrian sport in the United States for the last 18 years and is deeply experienced in almost every aspect of the Federation,” said Chrystine Tauber, USEF President. Tauber continued, “His experience, coupled with his commitment to the sport, makes him the ideal person to lead USEF through this transition.”
