This week’s audio report from the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) discusses the recent showcase of U.S. beef and pork at WorldFood Uzbekistan 2016. U.S. participation in the event allowed USMEF to gain further insight into this emerging market, and was supported by the USDA Market Access Program (MAP), the Beef Checkoff Program and the Pork Checkoff.
Yuri Barutkin, USMEF representative in Russia and the surrounding region, gives this week’s report, discussing this interesting and important market in more detail, noting that it could hold significant potential for U.S. red meat exports.
Uzbekistan is an Asian country of 30 million people, with a diverse and fast-growing economy. The country has few restrictions on imports of U.S. beef products, but does not currently allow U.S. pork imports due to porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) concerns.
