While at Spring Dairy Expo over the weekend, I learned quite a bit about the evaluation of potential AI sires. In fact, in tiny Plain City, Ohio, Select Sires has over 1400 bulls under evaluation for potential in the marketing string. The process, as I learned from Brian Garrison, is lengthy and thourough: Brian Garrison Explains Select Sires’ Selection Process (6:20 mp3)

Hi Chuck!
I’m not sure if I would classify this propaganda as funny, as much as scary. Scary that people who have no background in agriculture will believe this. Scary that the dairy industry isn’t promoting itself enough to combat it. Scary that there are activists out there who will invest significant time and money to stop all production agriculture.
Those of us who know the facts can laugh and say, “They got that completely wrong, that’s not how it happens at all!” But, the majority of the U.S. population will believe this movie is the truth about agriculture, because there are very few voices out there combating the activists’ point of view.
I say this should be the dairy industry’s call-to-arms: unite and spread the truth about our industry! We all need to be leaders and promoters if we want our livelihood to continue. This video should not only anger you, it should motivate you to do something – whether it’s inviting your neighbor’s to your operation or serving on a local agricultural committee. We have to take charge and face this head-on because it is not going to go away. We must be pro-active so our heritage can become the next generation’s heritage!
I guess when I saw this I was just in a mood to laugh. I agree that it’s not really funny when you consider the people who will not see through the mis-information this campaign is putting out. I hope it does motivate people in ag to do something proactive to combat this kind of lunacy!
