Sarah Caldwell - PA Dairy PrincessCongratulations to the newest Pennsylvania Dairy Princess.

Beaver County’s Sarah Caldwell was selected the Pennsylvania Dairy Princess at the 50th coronation on Saturday, Sept. 23 in Camp Hill. Twenty-eight county dairy princesses participated in a rigorous three-day competition for the golden anniversary state crown, including a speech and skit promoting milk and dairy products, and a personal interview with a panel of four judges. Contestants were evaluated on their public speaking skills, knowledge of the dairy industry, poise and personality.

Interns With Jersey Marketing Service Available

This one is for high school graduates who have a strong desire to pursue a career in managing and/or marketing Registered Jersey cattle. The cash dairy markets started the week of September 18 with a nice gain, then relapsed, but ended higher on the week. Block cheese closed Friday at $1.33 per pound, up 5 3/4-cents on the week, but 26 1/2-cents below a year ago. Barrel closed at $1.34, up 6 3/4-cents on the week, but 14 3/4-cents below a year ago. Eight cars of block traded hands on the week and three of barrel. The NASS U.S. average block price hit $1.2882, up 2.4 cents. Barrel averaged $1.3040, up 0.1 cent.

Butter closed Friday at $1.32, up a penny on the week, but 38 1/4 below a year ago. Eleven cars were sold. NASS butter averaged $1.2944, down 1.2 cents.

CWT Export Assistance Bids

Cooperatives Working TogetherHere’s the latest announcements from Cooperatives Working Together:

  • Cooperatives Working Together announced today (Monday, 9/18)that it accepted five export assistance bids last week for the sale of cheese, and one for anhydrous milkfat. Four of the cheese bids are from Dairy Farmers of America of Kansas City, MO: 95 metric tons (209,000 pounds) of Cheddar to the Netherlands; 54 metric tons (118,800 lbs.) of White Cheddar and Monterey Jack to Japan; 37 metric tons (81,400 lbs.) of Cheddar to Japan; and 2 metric tons (4,400 lbs.) of Mozzarella to Japan. The fifth cheese accepted cheese bid was from Select Milk Producers of Artesia, NM, for the export of 20 metric tons (44,000 lbs.) of Mozzarella to Japan. The final accepted bid was also from Dairy Farmers of America, for 17 metric tons (37,400 lbs.) of anhydrous milkfat to Mexico. CWT will pay an export bonus to the bidders, once completion of the cheese and milkfat shipments is verified.
  • New England Cooperative Offers Premium

    Agri-MarkNew England milk cooperative, Agri-Mark, has formed a new cooperative called New England Family Dairy Farms Cooperative. According to the news release, the cooperative hopes to sell bottled milk locally at a premium to be distributed to area farmers when prices are low.
