Here’s some of the latest information from the World Dairy Expo, taking place right now in Madison, WI. Hopefully I’ll have some pictures for you soon.

  • Thirty teams competed for top honors, last night, in the National 4-H Dairy Cattle Judging Contest at World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wis. Maryland won the contest with 2,035 points; of a possible 2,250 points. Ohio’s own Neil Duncan earned 691 points, out of a possible 750 points, to take home top individual honors. The Minnesota team placed second; followed by Michigan, Missouri, and Wisconsin in third, fourth, fifth respectively.

  • The Kaskaskia College clinched the 18th International Post-Secondary Judging Contest held during World Dairy Expo at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisconsin, with 21 points more than second place SUNY – Cobleskill. Amanda Durant, of Morrisville State College, captured top individual honors and the SUNY – Cobleskill team topped the reasons portion of the contest.

  • Virginia Tech won the overall team title at the Intercollegiate Dairy Cattle Judging Contest with one of the highest total scores in the history of this prestigious contest averaging over 47 points out of a possible 50 over 18 classes of placings and reasons. Luke Olson from the University of Minnesota earned top individual honors and the University of Minnesota also received second place. The University of Wisconsin-Madison placed third overall and topped the oral reasons division adding to their impressive streak – winning reasons at 17 of the last 40 competitions.

  • The International Junior Holstein Show kicked-off the five days of World Dairy Expo dairy cattle shows. Judge Gilbert Teixeira, owner of Gil-Tex Holsteins in Turlock, Calif., had the pleasure of placing the 139 entries. A pair of dairy, very balanced cows claimed top honors. Shephard-Farms Aero Ruby, exhibited by Collin S. Abraham of Livingston, Calif. was named the Grand Champion of this year’s International Junior Holstein Show. Her dam is Shepards-Farm Jackpot Rae and she is sired by Oliveholme Aeroline-TW-ET.

  • Consecutive Grand Champions honors were bestowed to Valevue BBK Minerva at the Central National Ayrshire Show, held October 3, 2006 at World Dairy Expo. The first place four-year-old was exhibited by Steve and Vicki Searles/ Stillmore Cattle Company from Pine Island, Minn. The show’s premier sire Blackaddar BB Kellogg sired the champion and her dam is Yellow Briar Patrick’s Mint. Her 305-day production record at 3-01of age was 30,029 pounds of milk, 1,644 pounds of fat and 984 pounds of protein
