DairylineDairy Markets Week in Review
The cash dairy markets saw some strength early in the week but it petered out in anticipation of Thursday’s Milk Production report. Block cheese, after climbing to $1.88 on Wednesday, closed Friday at $1.8475 per pound, unchanged on the week, but 56 3/4-cents above a year ago. Barrel closed at $1.8775, up a penny on the week, and 61 3/4-cents above a year ago. Fourteen cars of block traded hands and one of barrel. The NASS-surveyed U.S. block average fell 5.2 cents, to $1.8968. Barrel averaged $1.9257, down 2.6 cents.

Butter closed Friday at $1.29, up a half cent on the week, but 6 1/2-cents below a year ago. Thirteen cars were sold. NASS butter averaged $1.2947, down 3.5 cents. NASS nonfat dry milk averaged $2.0865, up 3.2 cents, and dry whey averaged 40.97, down 0.3 cent.
