What does reputation have to do with farming and ranching? Actually, a lot! The folks at Osborn Barr truly believe it and have launched Barnstorm, a site solely dedicated to helping farmers and ranchers share their story, build their brand and establish a trusted reputation. Karen Pfautsch, Director of Barnstorm, sat down with cattle producers during the recent Missouri Cattlemen’s Convention to express the importance of defining goals, knowing your audience and being active online.
Karen said, “A lot of the farmers and ranchers we work with really love the job of raising animals or producing crops. But there are outside pressures from the community and growing interest on where food comes from and all of a sudden there is more attention needed to telling their story. We help farmers connect with those people who are wanting to learn more. We help them deal with the pressures that aren’t their day-to-day.”
A few lines from the Barnstorm homepage make me feel like I am reading a Dr. Seuss book to my two year old. They flow so easily and perfectly share the message of Barnstorm. “Your greatest asset isn’t measured by horsepower or by hundredweight. It isn’t stored in a bin or even the bank. It doesn’t run on diesel or graze in pastures. Your greatest asset isn’t your land, your livestock or even your equipment. Your greatest asset is your reputation.”
