National Milk Producers Federation A ruling this week by the USDA that low-carbohydrate milk products ought to be classified for pricing purposes the same as conventional fluid milk beverages got applause from the National Milk Producers Association. They believe it will prevent further farm revenue losses.

Production Climbs Yet Again

Milk production numbers continue to advance. USDA announced that total output for the 23 major dairy states is up to 14.6 billion pounds, up 3.7% from a year ago. There may be some hope, however. The production total was down four million pounds from last month. A very slight figure, to be sure, but perhaps a light at the end of the supply-building tunnel.

Powdergate Conspirators Finally Fined

Six New Zealanders have finally been fined for their roles in “Powdergate,” the multi-million dollar scandal involving export regulations and powdered milk. The six men in question admitted their roles in the scam, submitting to charges of producing false customs documents to export milk powder labeled as meat produce. The original charges were much more severe, originally handed down five years ago as conspiracy to defraud. In total, the six Kiwis were fined just $58,500.

Raw Milk May Kill You

That’s the message health professionals are delivering as many states contemplate potential legislation to allow the sale of unpasteurized dairy products. Advocates of the unprocessed dairy claim that raw milk can magically prevent asthma, tooth decay, diabetes, attention deficit disorder, osteoporosis and other ailments. On the other hand, the health community points out that you’ll most likely end up with salmonella, E. coli, listeria, and more.

Let The Kids Drink Whole Milk If They Want

IDFAI just don’t get why anyone would think that serving kids whole milk causes obesity. How about soda or a sedentary lifestyle in front of a tv set or video game console? The IDFA released a statement today in support of New York City Councilman Bill de Blasio who has introduced a resolution that asks the school board why they’ve limited the milk choices kids and schools have.

Total Milk Output Up in 2005
